Cheap Spider Lifts: Beware

3 September 2025

Why Platform Basket Outperform Cheap Spider lift Imitations

In today’s access equipment market, quality, safety, and reliability matter more than ever. While cheap spider lift options exist online, experienced operators understand that not all spider lifts are equal. Many low-cost imports from the internet may look appealing. However, they lack the technology, engineering, safety, and performance that define the Platform Basket ethos.

Platform Basket spider lifts stand out because of superior design, rigorous testing, and durable materials. These are not just machines; they are the result of years of innovation. Built in Italy with high-quality European components, they represent the gold standard in Mewp innovation.

Built to Last with Superior Materials

One major difference between the Platform Basket spider lift range and cheap spider lift copies lies in construction quality. Platform Basket uses high-tensile steel, precision welding, and advanced coatings. In contrast, many low-cost alternatives use inferior metals, which may corrode, bend, or fail under stress.

This is crucial when working at height. Platform Basket products are engineered to remain stable in challenging conditions. Their precision-manufactured booms and chassis deliver unmatched reliability. On the other hand, cheap spider lift imports often lack structural integrity. This creates safety risks and shortens lifespan.

Advanced Safety Testing and Certification

Platform Basket spider lifts undergo extensive testing before entering the market. Each model is CE certified, tested to meet or exceed European and international safety standards. These tests include structural stress analysis, electrical safety, and performance in extreme environments.

By contrast, many copies found on discount marketplaces are not tested to the same standards. Their safety features may be minimal or completely absent. Often, these lifts are sold without clear manuals, certification, or support. This puts operators at serious risk.

Proven Performance and Innovation

Platform Basket spider lifts lead the market in innovation. For example, the Platform Basket spider 33.15 delivers a working height of 32.4 metres. It offers impressive outreach and can operate on uneven ground with advanced self-levelling outriggers.

In contrast, cheap spider lifts from lesser established brands offer limited movement and poor platform stability. These imitations often break down, lack access to spare parts, and do not support remote diagnostics.

With Platform Basket, you get more than just high access equipment. You get access to a network of expert engineers, a robust support system, and software tools. This level of service and performance is why Platform Basket spider lifts remain the preferred choice worldwide.

Long-Term Value Over Short-Term Savings

At first glance, buying a low-cost spider lift online may seem like a good deal. However, these machines often fail early due to their inferior components wear quickly. Hydraulic systems can leak, electronics malfunction, and customer support can be non-existent.

Platform Basket spider lifts, however, are built for endurance and longevity. Their systems use industry-leading hydraulic components, cutting edge Bosch Rexroth controls, and precision-milled pivot points. These features ensure ease of use, smooth operation and reduced maintenance over time.

A History of Trust and Global Reputation

Platform Basket has earned its global reputation over decades. They are trusted by arborists, building maintenance contractors, telecoms and utilities companies and other large venues across the world. Platform Basket spider lifts consistently deliver results and are used in some of the most demanding environments, including theme parks, airports, cathedrals, and industrial sites.

Cheap spider lift imitations have no such track record. Many of these suppliers are faceless companies offering no guarantees. If something goes wrong, you may find no support, parts, or liability coverage.

Real-World Reliability in Every Detail

Every component in a Platform Basket spider lift is selected for durability and performance. From the tracks to the control panel, every inch is built for professional use. These lifts can operate on rough terrain, squeeze through tight doorways, and reach over obstacles with ease.

In contrast, cheap spider lift imitations often use plastic components, weak hydraulics, and outdated control systems. As a result, they fail under real-world conditions. Imagine being 20 metres up and discovering your platform has no failsafe system!

Technology That Puts Operators First

Platform Basket spider lifts come equipped with user-friendly technology. Many models offer wireless remote control, GPS diagnostics, and automatic setup. This saves time and increases safety. Operators can focus on the task, not the machinery.

Cheap spider lifts rarely include such features. They often require manual setup and lack intuitive controls. This leads to delays and increases risk.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement

Platform Basket invests heavily in research and development. Every new model reflects feedback from users and industry trends. For example, their hybrid and electric models support low-emission worksites. They help companies meet environmental goals while maintaining high performance.

These advancements keep Platform Basket products ahead of the curve. Cheap spider lift imitations rarely innovate. They simply copy designs and cut corners on manufacturing, materials, safety technology and safety testing to reduce costs.

Comprehensive After-Sales Support

Buying a Platform Basket spider lift means joining a network of support. Promax Access and other certified dealers provide servicing, spare parts, and training. This ensures your machine runs smoothly for years.

On the other hand, with cheap spider lifts online via import, you’re often on your own. Warranty terms are unclear or not honoured. This leads to downtime, unexpected expense of costly or impossible repairs, and frustration.

Platform Basket Spider Lifts vs. The Rest

When comparing spider lifts, it’s clear why Platform Basket stands out. Let’s look at how they compare to low-cost imports:

  • Durability: Platform Basket spider lifts use strong steel and expert construction. Cheap copies often fail within months.
  • Safety: Platform Basket models meet international safety standards. Many imports lack proper testing and certification.
  • Technology: Platform Basket includes advanced controls, diagnostics, and automation. Copies offer only basic or outdated features.
  • Support: With Platform Basket, you get global service and parts. Imports offer little or no after-sales help.
  • Value: While the upfront cost may be higher, Platform Basket spider lifts save money long-term through reliability and low maintenance.

Why Choosing Platform Basket Is a Smart Business Decision

Making a smart investment means looking beyond price. Platform Basket products deliver reliable performance, exceptional safety, and trusted support. These benefits far outweigh the short-term savings offered by cheap imports.

Access Platform Regulations

Regulations for Access Platforms (MEWPs)

Using access platforms in the UK is subject to specific legal requirements designed to protect workers as well as the public. Two key sets of access platform regulations apply: LOLER (Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998) and PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998). These regulations not only set strict standards for the operation and maintenance, but also the inspection of powered access equipment.

What Are the Legal Requirements for Access Platforms?

Here’s an overview of the two main pieces of legislation that govern the use of access platforms (AKA Spider lifts or MEWPs  – Mobile Elevated Work Platforms):

LOLER – Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998

LOLER covers any equipment used to lift or lower loads, including people. For instance:

  • Equipment used to lift people must be safe and appropriate precautions taken to reduce risk.
  • Thorough examination before first use (unless accompanied by a Declaration of Conformity less than 12 months old).
  • Ongoing examinations at intervals not exceeding:
  • Six months for MEWPs used to lift people
  • Twelve months for other lifting equipment
  • Examinations must be carried out by a competent person, with a written report submitted to the duty holder (usually the employer).

Here at Promax Access, we offer LOLER reminders to ensure you remain compliant.

PUWER – Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998

PUWER ensures all work equipment is suitable and safe. Under PUWER:

  • Equipment must be suitable for its intended use.
  • Not only must equipment be in a safe condition, but also inspected as necessary to ensure it remains safe.
  • Inspections must be carried out by a competent person.
  • Operators must keep records of inspections until the next inspection.
  • Specific measures should be in place to protect users and also others nearby.

Regular Inspections Are a Legal Duty

Access platforms must undergo a thorough examine every six months. For platforms used only to lift materials, the interval is typically 12 months. Failing to comply puts workers at risk and leaves employers exposed to potential prosecution under health and safety laws in the UK.

Training Requirements

Furthermore, operators of access platforms must be trained and competent as required by:

Training must be accredited (typically, IPAF), and refresher training is carried out at regular intervals. Documenting all maintenance and training is also essential for compliance and audit purposes.

Servicing and Maintenance

Any machine that works at height should be in top working order. Routine servicing helps:

  • Avoid accidents caused by mechanical failure
  • Ensure compliance with regulations
  • Maintain resale value

Neglecting maintenance not only risks prosecution but also endangers lives.

Why Choose Promax Access?

Compliance isn’t optional, it’s a legal obligation that also protects lives.

Large venue maintenance

Large stadium maintenance can be difficult, even in the largest modern stadiums. Spurs new 62,850 seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but, did you know it is the third largest stadium in England? It’s quite the undertaking to build such a stadium, but also to maintain and improve it. How do staff stay safe whilst maintaining it? For the answer we’d like to take you to Tottenham Hotspurs pre season friendly with West Ham United. The venue, Australias third largest stadium, the 61,266 Optus stadium in Perth Australia. Opened two years before the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Optus is of very similar proportions. The scale of the maintenance, as well as health and safety compliance can be overwhelming without the right access equipment. Access to high areas in large stadiums for maintenance can be a daunting task.

Our spiderlifts inside the Optus Stadium

That is the task facing Skywalker rope access, the Perth based company recently did large stadium maintenance on the Optus. This included roofing work, lighting and ducting and also height safety systems all high up in the stadium. To achieve this Skywalker turned to Australian access legends Preston Hire, a fifty years veteran in the global access market. These access experts are multi trade mark holders and have sites all over Australia and clients spanning the world. Their innovation in access platforms is up there with the worlds best, creating several “super series” platforms for a whole range of uses.
