Spider MEWP Access Platforms uses in Building Maintenance

When it comes to maintaining tall and complex structures, traditional methods of reaching high places, like ladders and scaffolding, often fall short of safety and efficiency requirements. This is where spider MEWP access platforms, also known as spider lifts, come to the rescue. These remarkable machines have revolutionised the way we approach building maintenance, offering a safer, more flexible, and highly effective alternative to conventional methods. In this blog, we’ll explore the use, and also and effectiveness of a building maintenance access platform. We will highlight the advantages they bring to the table.

The Versatility of Spider MEWP Access Platforms

One of the key strengths of spider access platforms is their incredible versatility. These machine design allows navigation the most challenging environments, making them ideal for a wide range of maintenance tasks:

1. Window Cleaning: Spider lifts will allow operatives to access windows in skyscrapers and high-rise buildings. Their compact design allows them to fit into tight spaces, and their ability to reach great heights ensures can clean windows with ease.

2. Painting and Coating: When maintaining a building’s exterior, spider lifts provide a stable and secure platform for painters and maintenance crews. Their precision and reach minimise the need for costly scaffolding setups.

3. Facade Inspection and Repair: Maintenance professionals use spider lifts to inspect and repair building facades, which can involve fixing cladding, sealing joints, and addressing other structural issues.

4. Tree Maintenance: In addition to their many applications in building maintenance, spider lifts are also effective for tree care. This allows arborists to access branches and trim trees safely and efficiently.

5. Interior Maintenance: Spider lifts are similarly ideal for interior tasks. Their compact size, multi-power options, as well as the ability to manoeuvre around obstacles make them a valuable tool for interior maintenance in facilities like office blocks, shopping centres, airports, and large warehouses.

Advantages of a Spider MEWP Access Platform

The adoption of a building maintenance access platform is not without reason. These machines offer several distinct advantages:
1. Safety: Safety is paramount in any maintenance operation. Spider lifts provide a secure platform for workers, reducing the risks associated with working at heights. Additionally, they are equipped with safety features such as automatic stabilisation, emergency lowering, and platform interlocks.

2. Precision: Spider lifts are highly precise and allow operators to access specific areas accurately. This precision reduces the likelihood of damage to delicate building components or landscaping.

3. Efficiency: The speed at which spider lifts are set up at the work site is remarkable. This efficiency minimises downtime and labour costs, saving building owners and also maintenance companies money.

4. Minimal Disruption: Unlike traditional scaffolding and MEWPs, spider lifts take up less space and have a smaller environmental footprint. This makes them an ideal choice for urban environments where minimising disruption to surrounding areas is crucial.

5. Adaptability: Spider lifts can adapt to the unique challenges presented by each maintenance task. Their compact size and flexibility allow them to access spaces that would not be inaccessible with conventional equipment.

6. Height Reach: These lifts can reach towering heights, with some models extending to over 43 metres. This height reach ensures that even the tallest buildings are effectively maintained.

Spider MEWP Access Platform Effectiveness

To further illustrate the effectiveness of spider access platforms, let’s look at some real-world examples:

1. Burj Khalifa, Dubai: The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, relies on spider lifts for most of its window cleaning and maintenance. These lifts enable workers to reach even the most dizzying heights easily and precisely.

2. Historic Buildings: Many historic and architecturally significant buildings require delicate maintenance. Spider lifts are to repair and maintain delicate stonework and ornamentation on countless landmarks worldwide.

3. Shopping Malls: In bustling shopping centres, spider lifts are used for tasks such as changing light fixtures, inspecting HVAC systems, and performing general maintenance in high-ceiling areas.

Conclusion

Spider MEWP access platforms have transformed the world of building maintenance, offering a safer, more versatile, and highly efficient alternative to traditional methods. With their precision, adaptability, coupled with impressive height reach, these machines continue to make their mark in building maintenance, historical preservation, and a wide range of other applications.

As technology advances, we can expect even more innovations in the world of spider MEWP access platforms, further improving the effectiveness and safety of building maintenance. For now, it’s clear that these arachnid-like machines have spun a web of success in the world of construction and maintenance.

Large venue maintenance

Large stadium maintenance can be difficult, even in the largest modern stadiums. Spurs new 62,850 seater Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but, did you know it is the third largest stadium in England? It’s quite the undertaking to build such a stadium, but also to maintain and improve it. How do staff stay safe whilst maintaining it? For the answer we’d like to take you to Tottenham Hotspurs pre season friendly with West Ham United. The venue, Australias third largest stadium, the 61,266 Optus stadium in Perth Australia. Opened two years before the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Optus is of very similar proportions. The scale of the maintenance, as well as health and safety compliance can be overwhelming without the right access equipment. Access to high areas in large stadiums for maintenance can be a daunting task.

Our spiderlifts inside the Optus Stadium

That is the task facing Skywalker rope access, the Perth based company recently did large stadium maintenance on the Optus. This included roofing work, lighting and ducting and also height safety systems all high up in the stadium. To achieve this Skywalker turned to Australian access legends Preston Hire, a fifty years veteran in the global access market. These access experts are multi trade mark holders and have sites all over Australia and clients spanning the world. Their innovation in access platforms is up there with the worlds best, creating several “super series” platforms for a whole range of uses. However, the platform that they recommended in this case was our very own Platform Basket 33.15 Spiderlift. Here it can be seen with a Skywalker team working on the Optus Stadium, thanks to this pic from Preston Hire. Sports venue access platforms

The Platform Basket 33.15 spiderlift is just one of a whole range of high quality sports venue access platforms available here at Promax Access. The Platform Basket range has lots of features that fit seamlessly with large stadium maintenance. They are equally at home working indoors, as they are outdoors, and they can pass through a standard residential door width for internal jobs. The handy and lightweight design means low ground pressure on delicate surfaces such as turf and running tracks, or polished and tiled floors inside. This is perfect for both of these multi-use stadiums, particularly when rigging stage equipment for concerts. Thanks to their soft rubber tracks and zero turning radius, the Platform Basket spiderlift range is incredibly nimble in tight spaces. Air, water and power hoses are concealed within the boom. This means that the operator does not have to worry about trailing cables and hoses. This is ideal for large stadium maintenance as all those are confined within the footprint of the platform, even when fully extended! We top these features off with a choice of fully electric and hybrid versions, and our spiderlifts can operate fume free whilst also quickly moving between work sites.
