The law states that, when in use, all access platforms should be thoroughly examined. Without a valid LOLER certificate, you should not use your access platform. Access platforms should also be serviced every six months if the lift is used to carry people and every 12 months if it only carries loads and not people. Access platforms also need to be serviced following ‘exceptional circumstances’, as in the case of damage to or failure of the access platform. Long periods out of use or a serious change in operating conditions which will affect the integrity of the equipment will also require access platform servicing.
